Generic detectors ship a library of someone else’s symbols and hope yours look similar. SimplyCount is self-learning: it learns each symbol from your legend on your plan set — receptacles drawn your engineer’s way, fixtures with your annotations — and then finds every instance across every sheet, on your own machine. The published benchmark is the time anchor: 168 pages, 60 symbols, about an hour including review.

Can software count symbols on a PDF plan set?
Yes. SimplyCount reads your PDF plan set, learns each symbol from your own legend, and finds every instance across all sheets. You review each symbol's detections and sign off — the count you export is the count you verified.
Is there free symbol counting software?
SimplyCount is free to run on your own plans during its free access period (through at least December 15, 2026) — full features, no credit card to start. It is not free forever: the period ends with clear advance notice, and continuing afterwards takes a paid subscription.
How accurate is automatic symbol counting?
SimplyCount pairs detection with per-symbol review: for each symbol you scan the marked sheet and accept or reject its detections, so the exported count matched a hand-verified ground truth exactly in our published benchmark. Any count that isn't fully verified is shown as a floor (≥), never dressed up as a total.
What's the difference between symbol counting and symbol recognition?
The same job by two names: recognizing a symbol's shape wherever it appears, then tallying it. SimplyCount does symbol recognition with self-learning — you teach it your legend's symbols once, and it counts those exact symbols rather than guessing from a generic library.
