SimplyCount

Fire Sprinkler & Fire Protection Takeoff Software: Count Every Symbol Automatically

SimplyCount finds and marks every fire protection symbol on your plan set (sprinkler heads, risers, valves and standpipe symbols) in minutes, on your own machine. You review each symbol's detections on the marked sheet and accept or reject them before anything leaves the app, and unverified counts show as a floor (≥), never dressed up as a total.

SimplyCount is on-prem AI takeoff software built for fire protection estimators. Instead of dragging a highlighter across every sheet, you point at each symbol from your own legend and the engine finds every instance across the whole plan set. You then review the marked-up detections, reject or add any you need, and export a count you can defend. Run it fully on-prem so your drawings never leave your device. Because SimplyCount is self-learning, teaching it a non-standard fire protection symbol once means it counts that symbol on every future job.

Why it's hard by hand

Hand-counting fire protection symbols across a full plan set costs hours you don't have.

A single missed or double-counted device can turn a winning bid into a loss.

Inconsistent symbols and standards make a hand tally hard to defend.

How SimplyCount handles it

What you get

  • Finds every instance of the symbols you count most in fire protection work.

  • Learns your custom or non-standard symbols: teach it once, count it forever.

  • Exports to Excel, CSV and PDF for your estimating stack.

  • SimplyCount runs on your own machine: counting is local, plan sets are never uploaded, and results live in an encrypted local database inside your firewall. The license is checked once, at app launch, over HTTPS; after that, counting runs fully offline; a fully offline build with no license check is available for air-gapped environments at negotiated pricing, and firms that want one shared install can run SimplyCount on a server inside their own firewall.

  • SimplyCount's published run is 53 unique symbols across 21 pages in 11 minutes, including review, on a laptop CPU with no GPU. How we measured it.

On a fire protection set

Sprinkler head takeoff, riser counts and the fire alarm overlap

Sprinkler head takeoff by orientation

Pendent, upright, sidewall and concealed heads each carry their own legend symbol, and a bid needs a separate total for each. Heads appear on the FP sheets and again on reflected ceiling plans, which is where hand counts double up: count from the FP sheets and use the RCP to reconcile. In SimplyCount you teach each head symbol once from the project legend; it finds and marks every instance across the set and you sign off a per-symbol total. How to count sprinkler heads.

Standpipe and riser counts

Risers, control valves, fire department connections, post indicator valves, hose valves and flow and tamper switches are sparse symbols that each carry real equipment cost, and they live on riser diagrams as often as on plans. SimplyCount counts these device symbols the same way it counts heads. It does not take linear pipe, fittings or hangers: footage stays in your estimating tool, and the device counts from SimplyCount feed it.

Fire alarm devices on fire protection sheets

Waterflow and tamper switches sit on the FP drawings but are monitored by the fire alarm system, so the two scopes overlap at exactly the symbols a bid is most likely to miss or count twice. Detectors, pull stations and horn/strobes belong on the fire alarm takeoff page; see also counting smoke detectors.

Count from the project legend, not a generic chart

NFPA 13 governs how a sprinkler system is designed and installed, but every plan set defines its own symbols, so the count has to come from that set's legend. That is why SimplyCount learns symbols from your legend rather than a fixed library. The fire protection section of the symbol legend lists the common ones and where they appear.

Questions

Common questions

Can SimplyCount count fire protection symbols automatically?
Yes. Point at the symbol from your own legend and SimplyCount finds and marks every instance across the whole plan set, then lets you review and sign off on the total before it lands in a bid.
Can we keep everything inside our network?
Your plan sets, yes: detection runs locally, results sit in an encrypted local database, and there is no upload step. SimplyCount checks its licence once, when the app launches. That check needs an internet connection and carries licence state only, never your drawings; after launch, counting runs fully offline. For environments that cannot allow any outbound connection, a fully offline build with no licence check is available at negotiated pricing; see the system requirements page.
How fast is it, really?
SimplyCount's published run is 53 unique symbols across 21 pages in 11 minutes, including review, on a laptop CPU with no GPU. Most sheets go from open plans to a draft count in minutes.
Can it learn our custom or non-standard symbols?
Yes. SimplyCount is self-learning: teach it a symbol once from your own legend and it counts that symbol on every future job, getting more accurate the more you use it.
Does SimplyCount count sprinkler pipe footage or hangers?
No. SimplyCount counts device symbols such as heads, risers, valves, fire department connections and flow or tamper switches, and gives you a per-symbol total you sign off on. Linear pipe, fittings and hangers are taken in your estimating tool; the device counts from SimplyCount feed it.
